'SPEED RACER' - THE FIRST 7 MINUTES! (video)

First off, let me apologize for the lack of posts. I must attribute it to my lack of sleep. In any case, I'll make up for it now... It's not exactly a secret that this weekend's "Speed Racer" is tracking poorly with audiences. Warner Bros., quivering in their boots no doubt, has posted the films first seven minutes via Yahoo!.

While my expectations for the film aren't all that high, I will say that the first seven minutes were enough to make me want to keep watching - maybe that's the point. It has a dazzling visual style I haven't seen on film since Oliver Stone's "Natural Born Killers" or even "Kill Bill Vol. 1 and 2." Sadly, though, if I do venture out this weekend to the movies, it will be for last week's overperforming "Iron Man" which seems to have hit the mark with everyone.

IT'S HERE! 'SPEED RACER' TRAILER

You gotta love how the Wachowski Brothers created a virtual world ala "Sin City" for the big screen take on the beloved 'toon "Speed Racer."

Here's the official synopsis:

Speed Racer (Emile Hirsch) is a young man who has natural racing instincts whose goal is to win The Crucible, a cross-country rally that took the life of his older brother, Rex Racer (Scott Porter). Speed is loyal to the family business, run by his parents Pops (John Goodman) and Mom (Susan Sarandon), with Pops responsible for designing Speed's vehicle, Mach 5. The owner of Royalton Industries (Roger Allam) makes Speed a lucrative offer, and Speed rejects it, angering the owner. Speed also uncovers a secret that top corporate interests, including Royalton, are fixing some of the biggest races to gain profit. With the offer to Speed denied, Royalton seeks to ensure that Speed will not win any major races. Speed finds support from his parents and his girlfriend Trixie (Christina Ricci) and enters The Crucible in a partnership with his one-time rival, Racer X (Matthew Fox), seeking to rescue his family's business and the sport itself.

AWESOME 'SPEED RACER' PICS LEAKED

Growing up, who didn't watch the anime toon "Speed Racer?" While it's been stuck in development Hell, the Wachowski brothers wanted to bring the project to the screen with Johnny Depp. Never happened. They did, however, invent a whole new look for their upcoming adaptation for Warner Bros. pictures.

USA Today has recently published the first 8 photos from the feature which show off the new film's stunning look. Action producer Joel Silver ("The Matrix," et al.) calls the visual effects of the pic "are beyond belief. "We couldn't have made this movie until right now."

The trailer premieres tonight on "Entertainment Tonight" will hit the 'Net soon after.
