RAMBO MAY BE BACK FOR FIFTH FILM

Over at Deadline Hollywood, Harvey Weinstein hinted that another "Rambo" sequel is already planned and will involve bringing the character back to the United States.

The comments come after the latest (and fourth) "Rambo" film opened to a solid but unspectacular $18.1 million and second place spot over the weekend.

Despite "Rambo III" taking in $53m domestic back in 1988 - an amount this "Rambo" isn't expected to top despite two decades of inflation - Weinstein is bullish over its economic prospects. Perhaps the retro factor of the character and all the kick-booty nostalgia may resonate with fans.

Weinstein's hopes lie in the international market as the "Rambo" films, like the James Bond series, have consistently made 75% of their profit overseas - a quite different margin than other action franchises like superhero films or the Jason Bourne series which earn notably more domestically than internationally.

Yet analysts predict Harv may be disappointed with global totals considering the political climate change in the past two decades, and the anti-American sentiment (or more specifically the anti-Bush sentiment) that has pervaded even other Western cultures in the post-Iraq environment.

Even more interesting, is that the other day, Sly dropped a hint that he'd love to take the green beret into another realm. Perhaps supernatural? Perhaps alien?

Whatever the case, we're on board.

THE BEST STALLONE INTERVIEW - EVER

Thanks to InternetSavage, this is one of the best Sly Stallone interviews by radio talk show host Mike Savage. Hands down.

Savage, an independent-minded individualist, fits no stereotype. He not only attacks big government and liberal media bias but champions the environment and animal rights. He's one-of-a-kind.

So take about 20 minutes, grab a cup of joe and chill out for a bit.

RAMBO vs. ALIEN, vs. PREDATOR, vs. FREDDY??

Just as he did with last year's "Rocky Balboa," Sly Stallone is answering a ridiculous amount of fan questions over at the web site Ain't It Cool News. If you're a Sly fan, you MUST check it out.

Interestingly, though, when one fan inquired about his common admission that he’d like to continue the Rambo franchise beyond this new film, the fourth in the series, here’s what Stallone said...

"I truly can’t tell you yet because I think it would be bad luck, but I think a challenge would be to take the character which has been perceived mostly in a realistic vein and add another element of the surreal that would actually take the audience into a slightly different genre. It’s not like I’m going to turn it into a full on Broadway musical starring the Muppets, but it is ambitious."

With all of the crossovers these days in comic, films and even video games, I bet the studio would love to see a Rambo vs. Predator or Alien. How cool would that be?

NEW 'RAMBO' trailer

The bow and arrow... The blade... They're back. No CGI special effects. No studio backlot filming. No faggy PG-13 MPAA rating. For this new "Rambo" trailer, there's nothing but pure adrenaline in this vintage-feeling, old-school action flick starring Sly Stallone.

"Rambo" hits theaters on January 25th 2008.

'JOHN RAMBO' SCRIPT REVIEWED

Last December's "Rocky Balboa" sucker-punched those who thought it would be another typical entry into the MGM boxing franchise. You know what I mean, a 90-minute man-against machine fable that is so ridiculous, that it takes away from its potential enjoyment. "Rocky V" anyone??

Yet the humble, quiet pic was an ode to the dramatic 1976 original, winner of the Oscar for Best Picture.

Critics loved "Rocky Balboa" and lauded it as a fitting farewell to Sly's beloved pop culture icon.

That said, some bodybuilder-actor-trainer-whatever, got his hands on what's believed to be the next and final installment of the "Rambo" franchise, currently shooting abroad.

Aptly titled "John Rambo" ala "Rocky Balboa," is should be another fitting tribute to the '80s Stallone Reagan-era icon.

HEMINGWAY NOTE: His server may be having problems. As of 1 p.m. this afternoon, it seemed down. Perhaps from all the Rambo traffic? Maybe the movie mafia went after him. Keep trying, however.
