The Brothers Warner have just dumped the trailer for Guy Ritchie’s "Sherlock Holmes" on the world and we must say, it seems more Disney Pirates-esque than we may have thought. It stars Robert Downey Jr. as the title character of the Arthur Conan Doyle books and short stories. Jude Law co-stars as Dr. John Watson, Rachel McAdams plays Holmes’ love-interest, “the deceptive” Irene Adler. And Mark Strong plays the film’s villain Lord Blackwood, an industrialist who “holds sway over a cult of dark-arts practitioners and claims to possess supernatural powers, is linked to a series of murders.”
The film’s action-comedy tone aside it certainly does seem to also include Ritchie’s signature style as well.
Here's the official plot: In a dynamic new portrayal of Arthur Conan Doyle’s most famous characters, “Sherlock Holmes” sends Holmes and his stalwart partner Watson on their latest challenge. Revealing fighting skills as lethal as his legendary intellect, Holmes will battle as never before to bring down a new nemesis and unravel a deadly plot that could destroy the country.
Sherlock Holmes will hit theaters on December 25th 2009.
We last saw Robert Downey, Jr.'s Sherlock Holmes in paparazzi set pics from the upcoming Guy Ritchie film. Now, however, Warner Bros has released the first two official photos from the film. The photo above features a bloodied, shirtless Holmes in some king of fighting arena. Looks like a cockfight, "Fight Club" kind of element. But who knew Holmes would be so buff?? Looks like Downey has been hitting the gym. Kudos...
The photo below features Holmes’ trusted colleague Dr. Watson, played by Jude Law. Screen scribe Anthony Peckham’s script is based upon a mixture of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic tales and the Lionel Wigram comic book adaptation which presents a more active version of the famous detective.
And for Warner Bros to choose this photo as one of the first photos to release is making a statement - this ain't our grandpappies' famous dick.
