LEO DiCAPRIO TO PLAY IAN FLEMING??

Slashfilm is reporting that Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way has acquired the rights to make "Fleming," a film biopic based on the life of British author and James Bond creator Ian Fleming.

The story would center on Fleming, who fought as a Commander of Naval Intelligence in World War II while creating 007 and the many characters from the novels. Scribe Damian Stevenson describes the film as “Shakespeare in Love or Finding Neverland with some real-life Bond-like espionage and female flattery thrown in.”

And while it has not been officially announced that DiCaprio would play Fleming, most insiders assume that Appian Way is developing the project as a starring vehicle for DiCaprio.

SCORSESE DOES SINATRA??

A day before the 10 year anniversary of Frank Sinatra's death, we sort of soiled ourselves a tad upon learning that Martin Scorsese may direct a major biopic for Universal Pictures about the life of the late crooner, according to the film's producer Tina Sinatra.

According to Jam Showbiz, even though the crooner did indeed socialize with organized crime figures, in this film he'll be shown as innocent of any true involvement with the Mafia.

Tina Sinatra tells Sun Media that Scorsese is in a "reflective period" and is willing to present the truth about her father. That means "dismissing scurrilous rumours that Sinatra was a stooge for the Mafia."

Sinatra's youngest daughter also produced the Emmy-winning and awesome 1992 mini-series "Sinatra," and admits it is premature to officially announce Scorsese for the biopic. In Hollywoodspeak, that prolly means the Ts and Is aren't crossed and dotted.

HUGH HEFNER BIOPIC TO COME

Variety reports that "Rush Hour" director Brett Ratner will direct "Playboy," a biopic to center on Playboy magazine founder Hugh Hefner.

Several years ago, producer Brian Grazer optioned Hefner's life and ever since, has been trying to develop the project in one way, shape of form. At one point, Oliver Stone had been previously attached.

However, Ratner along with scribe John Hoffman, figured out an agle that pleases both Grazer and the 81-year-old publishing magnate.

Currently, Ratner is prepping an African-American 'Ocean's Eleven' style caper movie, and Hoffman just began writing the Hefner pic.

It's assumed the director next will shoot whichever one is ready.

It's a shame Ratner took the gig. Can you imagine if George Clooney decided to go behind the camera a third time? It's perfect material for him. The dude knows period films and is becoming a decent filmmaker in his own right.

UP & COMER COURTS POSSIBLE SAMMY ROLE

It's reported that "Hairspray" star Elijah Kelley is a front-runner in playing a young Sammy Davis, Jr. in an upcoming big screen biopic.

As he sings and dances in the upcoming musical (also starring John Travolta), he'll stars as black teen trying to overcome racism. But it won't be hard imagining him as a young Sammy.

“I want to play a certain gentleman that preceded myself in entertainment and music,” the actor - who until now is probably best known for last year’s Antonio Banderas flick “Take the Lead” - told MTV Movies.

Kelly hinted that he is competing with several other actors, reportedly including Andre 3000 of Outkast.

“There’s talks about it,” he said and alluded to a film race reminiscent of the recent Truman Capote biopic onslaught. “There are a couple projects going on right now.”

In actuality, Hollywood is currently kicking around at least three different scripts, all revolving around Sammy. Denzel Washington and Brian Grazer are behind “In Black and White,” a film based on a 2003 biography; the Outkast singer is working on “Sammy and Kim,” about Davis’ controversial relationship with caucasian beauty Kim Novak; and “Hairspray” producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron are working on a deal to land the rights for Davis’ 1965 biography “Yes, I Can.”
